Last Saturday, 51 unusual registration plates went up for auction at Glencoe. The auction raised a total of £592,300, with the J4 registration plate selling for £380,000.
The J4 number has historically been assigned to the Government-owned official vehicle (the Voyager) used by the Lieutenant Governor, Air Chief Marshall Sir Stephen Dalton. The Inspector of Motor Traffic agreed with the Lieutenant Governor to make the number available for this year’s registration mark auction.
Some of the money raised from the sale of the J4 plate will be used to replace the Voyager – a diesel-driven car – with an electric vehicle, supporting the Island in achieving our objective of becoming carbon neutral.
The remaining funds raised through the auction will help fund other important infrastructure projects, including developing cycle paths and other similar green initiatives.
Minister for Infrastructure, Deputy Kevin Lewis, said: “I am delighted that the Governor’s new car will be electric. This entirely supports the aims of my
Sustainable Transport Policy. Money raised in the auction will help assist with this and other Policy projects.”
