A further six parent and child bays have been added to Sand Street car park bringing the total number to 14.
Work to create the spaces on Level 4 of the car park has now been completed after the Minister for Infrastructure, Deputy Kevin Lewis, recognised the need to increase the number of bays following public feedback. All parent and child spaces at the facility are located on the fourth floor as it has access to the lift which stops on even levels.
The work involved widening the bays, which make it easier for parents to get their babies and young children in and out of their vehicle, and to mark them as designated parent and child parking spaces.
Deputy Lewis said: "Although the creation of the new parent and child bays will mean there are three fewer spaces overall at Sand Street car park, I think this reduction is worthwhile due to the demand for this type of bay.
"After monitoring the popularity of these spaces over the Christmas period it became apparent that more were needed to help families who use the facility. By adding these bays, we hope to make it easier and safer for parents with young children to come into town to do their shopping."
