For the first time, this year’s Jersey Skills Show has been extended to a five-day event and will be brought to schools and Islanders virtually.
The Show – which runs from Monday 12 October to Friday 16 October and is sponsored by PwC – will bring together more than 60 exhibitors from 17 different industry sectors.
Organisers have changed the format of the annual event, which has previously been held on just one day, due to Covid-19 restrictions as well as based on feedback from schools which requested additional flexibility so they could schedule in times that suited them.
This year, students will be able find out more about different industries and careers by logging onto the new Jersey Skills Show website to access live industry career sessions. During these lunch-time sessions, students will hear directly from employers as well as being able to ask any questions they may have live.
Islanders considering a career change will also be able to join a live industry session with leading local experts, on Thursday 15 October from 5.30pm until 8pm.
The Jersey Skills Show website, which will be available all year round as a career guide resource for students and Islanders, includes exhibitor pages with information about different sectors as well as industry videos featuring behind the scenes tours and insights into various jobs. The website also includes CV and interview tips along with downloadable resources such as quizzes and competitions.
Throughout the week as well as in future careers lessons, secondary schools will organise research sessions with students in a range of year groups.

I would urge all students, as well as those Islanders who are considering a career change, to take advantage of the live sessions to find out more about what different industries can offer."

• Careers Guidance: How we can support you! This will be an informative session that gives an overview of the Careers Guidance Team at Skills Jersey and what support is available for adults who are looking to either kick start or change their career
• Ink Blot Creative: 33 years, 2 careers, 1 business - The transferable skills I used along the way! During this talk Jacqui Patton will be sharing the transferable skills she has relied on during her(very different) careers, and how that career has led to starting her own business.
• Sandpiper: Exploring careers in retail! Sandpiper discuss the diverse and unique career paths within retail that include a variety of sectors from marketing, finance, technology, human resources, to sales and management.
• Geek Talent: Skills of tomorrow – The skills landscape! Dominic Murphy, founder of Geek Talent will share the top jobs and skills most in demand in Jersey and the wider UK job market. You will discover how automation is affecting different job roles and which skills are most in demand to help you stay ahead of AI and automation. Activity sheets will be shared ahead of the session to use before or after the talk to show where you can discover the different paths you can follow to your dream career via the GoCareer platform.
