Changes to speed limits in St Lawrence

The changes intend to help improve safety around homes, and to enhance the Green Lane network. Signs are being replaced to reflect the new limits. 

The Connétable for St Lawrence, Deidre Mezbourian, said: “The changes to the main roads are not significant, and most people will not notice too much difference, but they will help to enhance the quality of life for those who live in the parish.

“We had significant consultation with parishioners and road users. It is always important to be collaborative and work together to achieve a positive outcome not only for our parishioners but all Islanders.”

 

Under the 2016 Road Safety Action Plan, the speed limits on all Jersey’s roads are being reviewed with the aims of improving road safety and ensuring that speed limits are consistent across all parishes.

Changes are being implemented parish by parish, following consultation. Last year, 445 Islanders responded to St Lawrence’s consultation, the results of which led to modifications to the proposals before they were reviewed and approved by the St Lawrence Parish Assembly in January 2020.

The Minister for Infrastructure, Deputy Kevin Lewis said: “By making these changes just before Christmas I hope that Islanders will take advantage of the extensions to the Green Lane Network to explore more of their island on foot or by bike over the holiday period.

“This scheme will create a better environment for active travel by making the roads safer for pedestrians and cyclists and allowing and supporting our sustainable transport goals as we move toward becoming carbon neutral.”  

Rue de Haut becomes 20mph, seven smaller lanes will become 15 mph and a minor amendment to La Grande Route de St Laurent to help reduce speeding.
