The Deputy Chair of the States Employment Board, Connétable Richard Buchanan, has today (Monday 9 March) signed a Vision Statement in support of Diversity and Inclusion in the workplace.
The Institute of Directors Jersey (IoD Jersey) is encouraging its membership and the wider community to commit to promoting diversity and inclusion within their organisations. By signing the Vision, Jersey’s government has joined the collaborative efforts to support its principles.
The IoD will create a final Jersey Diversity and Inclusion Leadership Charter to help convey some core activities, including:
- creating a workplace culture where Diversity and Inclusion is regarded as a source of enrichment, innovation and creativity and where inclusion is promoted by all
- providing the tools and infrastructure, for example, flexible working for all colleagues to achieve better work-life balance
- safeguarding equal opportunities at every career step through diversity-led candidate recruitment and selection processes
Connétable Buchanan said: “As a public service, we are committed to equal opportunities and fair reward for all our employees, regardless of gender, race, ethnicity or any other personal characteristic.
“We strongly support the work of the IoD to create a Diversity and Inclusion Leadership Charter, as this helps to progress and solidify the value of diversity and the creation of workplaces where decisions are fair, transparent and based on merit.”
