Statistics Jersey have today published their latest economic indicators report. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic it is important for key economic information to be available in a timely manner, to inform decision makers, businesses and members of the public. Therefore, in the short term, Statistics Jersey will be producing this report on a weekly basis.
Summary
On 14 June 2020
- the total number of people registered as ASW was 2,120; this total is 100 lower than a week earlier and 1,280 higher than at the end of the comparable week a year earlier (16 June 2019)
- a greater number of females (1,110 individuals) than males (1,010 individuals) were registered as ASW
- more people were de-registered (100 individuals) than registered (40 individuals) during this week
- there were 6,500 active Income Support claims, 20 lower compared with 7 June 2020, and 810 more than a year earlier (31 May 2019). This latest number of claims provided support for:
- 8,310 adults
- 3,400 children
- there were 180 active CRESS claims (for individuals having less than 5 years residency); this latest number was 30 lower than a week earlier. These claims provided support for:
- under Phase Two of the Government Co-Funded Payroll Scheme; almost £37.3 million had been paid out for a total 5,930 claims from both April and May 2020
- public transport usage increased (by 14%) and road usage was up slightly (by 2%) compared with the previous week
On 12 June 2020
- around 45 loans had been approved under the Business Disruption Loan Guarantee Scheme; the total amount of loans approved was £2,288,700, of which £2,098,700 had been drawn down
- there were 20 residential properties transacted through the Royal Court, 16 of which were eligible to be included in the Jersey House Price Index
