Recruitment has opened for Islanders wishing to become members of the Independent Prison Monitoring Board (IPMB).
Established in 2017, the IPMB monitors the treatment of prisoners and all matters that affect their welfare such as education and medical attention.
Those that are taken into the role will make regular visits to HMP La Moye to check the conditions and the treatment of prisoners and ensure their welfare and human rights are being upheld.
IPMB members will also attend monthly meetings, regular training sessions and deal with applications from prisoners about issues relating to prison management.
All positions are voluntary and are for an initial four-year term. DBS checks will take place during the recruitment process.
There will be two information sessions held at the Jersey Library for Islanders that are interested in the role:
- Tuesday 30 March 5-7pm
- Wednesday 7 April 12-2pm
Minister for Home Affairs, Connétable Len Norman said: "This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the community in an important but unusual way.
"HMP La Moye accommodates a wide variety of different people so I would like to encourage Islanders from diverse backgrounds to apply for this very rewarding role."
