Statistics Jersey have today published the Telecoms Statistics and Market Report 2020. This report presents statistics on the telecommunications sectors in the Bailiwicks of Guernsey and Jersey. It covers the calendar year 2020 and is based primarily on data submitted by the licensed telecommunications operators during the first half of 2021.
Prior to 2019, Telecoms Market Reports have been produced by the former combined Channel Islands Competition and Regulatory Authorities (CICRA). In 2019, Statistics Jersey was commissioned by the Authorities to independently compile and produce this yearly Statistics and Market Report, with previous historical data and questionnaire submissions being provided.
This report for 2020 should be considered in the context of the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and resultant measures taken by governments to reduce infection levels. In particular, usage of telecoms services will have been affected by increased home working, technology solutions to enable continued communication such as internet-based meetings, and fewer travellers both inbound and outbound.
