The Minister for Health and Social Services, Deputy Richard Renouf, has issued the following statement:
We welcome all of the latest guidance from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) regarding:
- the expansion of the COVID-19 booster programme to all adults aged 18 to 39, with this booster being given no sooner than three months after their second dose
- the offer of a second dose of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine to all 12 to 15 year olds no sooner than 12 weeks after their first dose was administered
- the offer of a booster dose (fourth dose) to all severely immunosuppressed individuals no sooner than three months after completing their three primary doses.
Jersey’s Vaccination Programme has always followed the advice and guidance provided by the JCVI and the UK’s Chief Medical Officers. As such, we will be incorporating all the latest recommendations into our programme with more details on the rollout to follow soon.
The intention of this new guidance is to accelerate the rollout of COVID-19 vaccines, to increase levels of protection across the population over the winter months, and to increase our defence against the Omicron variant which has now been identified in the UK.
