The UK Minister of State for Trade Policy, the Rt Hon Greg Hands MP, is visiting Jersey tomorrow to learn more about the Island’s various industries.
The UK Government has engaged closely with the Government of Jersey to represent the Island’s interests in UK Free Trade Agreements with different countries around the world.
Minister Hands, who will be in the Island tomorrow and Wednesday, will visit Jersey Dairy, Ports of Jersey, Digital Jersey and Jersey Finance as part of a tour of the Island’s trade.
Jersey’s Minister for External Relations, Senator Ian Gorst, said: “We are delighted to be hosting Minister Hands. We are working closely with him and his department as part of the post-Brexit trade agenda.
“The minister will see firsthand what Jersey can offer and how we punch well above our weight in terms of what we bring to the British family. It’s important for him to understand and see the size and scope of our Island so that he can represent us in free trade negotiations.
“It will also be an opportunity to strengthen our political relationship as we work towards securing free trade agreements.”
Minister Hands said: “Britain and Jersey share deep historical ties, and trade has always played a major role in our relationship. That is why I am committed to building on these ties and working together to ensure our trade deals support people and businesses in the Island by opening up new opportunities in fast-growing markets across the globe from the Pacific to Asia and the Americas.”
As well as meeting Senator Gorst and the Chief Minister, Minister Hands will also meet other ministers and the Lieutenant-Governor, Air Chief Marshal Sir Stephen Dalton, and the Bailiff, Timothy Le Cocq.
