Education Minister at Les Quennevais School

The Education Minister has been continuing his programme of school visits, with a tour of Les Quennevais School. Deputy Scott Wickenden, together with his Assistant Minister, Connétable Richard Vibert, and the Group Director for Modernisation and Digital, Gary Bowles, learned about the high-tech facilities available to prepare students for life in the workplace or at college, and viewed the creative work on display around the school.

 

The school’s Head teacher, Sarah Hague, explained how the school’s facilities, together with its approach to teaching and learning, are designed to provide the best possible foundations for the future lives of students.  She said: “We place a strong emphasis on delivering quality learning experiences that will inspire and engage all students during their time with us.  Our curriculum is rich and ambitious to ensure our students exceed their potential and develop a lifelong love of learning.

“The culture at our school is based on high expectations, embedded in excellence and enjoyment, and we place our students and their needs at the centre of everything we do.

“I was extremely proud to show the Head of Government’s Digital Modernisation Service the cutting-edge, industry standard, digital and technical resources which our students and staff now use every day.  Access and exposure to high end resources will help propel them to success in the next steps of their education, training, or employment when they leave us after five years.”

 

Deputy Wickenden said: “I particularly wanted Gary Bowles to see how technology is central to the learning experience of students at Les Quennevais. It’s not just about good IT lessons or effective use of computers in class, Les Quennevais students are getting an immersive experience of how technology can enhance learning and encourage engagement across all age groups. It’s something we can all learn from.”

 

Deputy Wickenden has already visited Rouge Bouillon and St Mary’s Primary schools, La Sente, Grainville, Haute Vallee, Jersey Youth Service and Jersey Music Service. 

He will continue his programme with visits to Grands Vaux, Les Landes, St Peter, St Clement, Victoria College and Le Rocquier before the end of this year. 

Other schools will follow in 2022.
