It’s not too late to fill in your census form

26 March 2021

Statistics Jersey are reminding Islanders to submit their census forms as soon as possible. Census Day was on Sunday 21 March and reminder letters will be sent out after Easter to households who are yet to complete them.

To date, around 80% of households have returned their form, ahead of the response rate in 2011, with 39,400 completed forms having been received by the census office so far. Of this total, 12,500 submissions have been completed online compared with 26,900 on paper.

Ian Cope, Chief Statistician at Statistics Jersey said: “I want to thank Islanders for their magnificent response to the census. If you haven’t sent your census form back yet it’s not too late. Do it online or on paper; it’s quick and easy. You can find help to complete the census on our website, or by phone or email.”

“One of the greatest things about the census is that it gives us an insight into real life. Our census office has answered a number of calls from Islanders who have needed to request a new form. We’ve had reports of forms being chewed by dogs and being damaged by spillages and toddlers!

“The team at the census office are there to provide any help that may be needed, so please do get in touch if you haven’t received a form, or require a new one, to avoid a potential £1,000 fine.”

Census officers will begin visiting households who have not completed the census from mid-April to support people in taking part.

The census helps everyone understand what the Jersey community looks like now, and how it is changing. The information is used by Government, businesses, charities, and the public.

Support is available online at www.gov.je/census, by phoning 01534 444400 or emailing census@gov.je.
