A functional brief outlining the services patients can expect at the temporary health facility in the former Les Quennevias School has been published.
Developed by senior clinicians and led by the Our Hospital project's Clinical Director, Prof Ashok Handa, the document sets out the different services and facilities which will relocate from the current Overdale hospital while the new hospital is being constructed.
It also outlines the assessment on the accommodation required and the way in which it will be arranged. The brief aims to ensure a level of standardisation and flexibility of space and will be made up of seven key areas:
1. Main Reception and Waiting
2. Outpatients
3. Therapies
4. Pain Management Centre
5. Child Development Therapy Centre
6. Older Adult Mental Health and Psychology and Therapy Service
7. Central Support and Staff Areas
Professor Handa said: 'This is an exciting phase of the Our Hospital Project and will allow us to reprovide the current services at Overdale with a new healthcare facility putting patients and patient experience at the heart of the design whilst maintaining the identity of the services provided.'
Deputy Chief Minister Senator Lyndon Farnham, Chairman of the Our Hospital Political Oversight group, added: 'The decanting of services from Overdale to the former Les Quennevais School site is a necessary step which will enable building works to begin on our Island's new hospital. Engagement with those impacted by this move, including those living near the former school, is essential and will be maintained throughout this important stage of the programme.'
