Assistant Minister for Education, Deputy Scott Wickenden, has visited St Mary's Primary School to see the remodelling of the school, including the new nursery facilities.
The remodelling, which started in January 2019, was designed by Jersey Property Holdings, and delivered by Cameron's. Work was originally scheduled to end in April 2021 and was completed ahead of schedule in January.
The three listed buildings that make up the school are now linked by internal corridors, and there are now larger classrooms and learning facilities.
The project has increased the floor space of the school by 40% and means that – from September – the school will have the facilities for a nursery class for the very first time. Up to 26 students will be able to attend.
Parents can apply for the few remaining places in the nursery via the Government of Jersey website.
On 30 April, Assistant Minister for Education, Deputy Scott Wickenden, visited the school, and met with staff and students to discuss the impact the project will have on learning and teaching.
Headteacher of St Mary's Primary School, Maria Stegenwalner, said: "These new facilities will make such a difference to our school community.
"I'd like to thank Jersey Property Holdings and Camerons for their hard work; the parish for allowing us to use the parish hall while the works were ongoing, and all the staff who have worked hard to make sure that classroom moves didn't impact on children's learning."
Assistant Minister for Education, Deputy Scott Wickenden, said: "It was fantastic to have the opportunity to meet the staff and students and see the impact of these upgrades to St Mary's Primary School.
"Both staff and students have been very positive about the effect it's already had in the school and the wider community. I'm also excited about the new nursery provision which will be welcoming their first class later this year.
"This is an outstanding example of a local-led project which is providing a vital service for Islanders."
