Coronavirus Helpline marks two years

14 March 2022

This week, colleagues from the Coronavirus Helpline will be marking two years of service.

The helpline was set up in March 2020 to help Islanders navigate COVID-19 challenges. So far, the team has handled nearly 600,000 calls with hundreds each day and frequent changes have meant the team has had to quickly adapt.

The helpline has been operating seven days a week, including Christmas, and has assisted islanders with a wide variety of information including testing, isolation and travel as well as vaccination bookings and certification.

Team Manager for the Helpline, Victoria Mitchell-Stirrup, said "Our staff have worked extremely hard to ensure that Islanders are supported throughout the pandemic. Although we were set up as a temporary team, two years on and we are still providing this vital service

"Everyone has been affected by pandemic, including our colleagues, so they understand the position people who are calling us are in. We are one big community here and all of us know how important it is to give Islanders the best advice. "

"We have received gifts from several Islanders, all with lovely messages, and it is heart-warming to know that we are having a positive impact on people in our fight against COVID-19."

The Helpline is open from 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday and 10am to 4pm weekends and bank holidays and can be contacted on 0800 735 5566.
