A 40-year-old woman has been sentenced to eight years imprisonment for attempting to import a Class A drug, cocaine, into the island.
Anne-Solenne Letertre (22/08/1982) from Rennes, travelled to Jersey via sea from St Malo on Saturday 23 April. On arrival she was questioned by officers from Jersey Customs and Immigration Service (JCIS) and her vehicle was subsequently searched. During the search, officers discovered the cocaine concealed within a dry powder fire extinguisher which had been re-welded together.
The cocaine was of high purity and is estimated to have a street value of between £120,000 and £225,000.
Paul Le Monnier, Senior Manager at JCIS said: “This was a calculated attempt to import a commercial amount of cocaine into the island with some effort made to conceal the drugs within a fire extinguisher. This cocaine could have easily been adulterated to two or three times its weight for sale on the streets of Jersey. Thankfully, JCIS Officers prevented that from happening.”
