A 31-year-old man has been sentenced to four years imprisonment for attempting to import MDMA tablets into the island.
Jack Boon (05.01.1991) from Newport, was charged with being knowingly concerned in the importation of Class A controlled drugs in August 2021, following the seizure of a postal package addressed to him.
Officers from Jersey Customs and Immigration Service (JCIS) discovered approximately 300 MDMA tablets during routine searches of postal items. The following day, Boon was arrested and subsequently released on bail while enquiries continued.
Boon failed to answer his bail conditions in early May, and so his arrest was ordered. He handed himself in to officers in August and went on to admit his part in the attempted importation.
The total value of the drugs seized is estimated to be between £6,000 - £9,000.
Paul Le Monnier, Senior Officer at JCIS said: 'JCIS officers continue to work closely with Jersey Post on a daily basis in order to detect and seize all attempts at importing drugs through the postal system, and bring all offenders to justice.'
