More than 100 representatives from Jersey’s construction industry gathered at The Grand for
today’s Sustainable Construction Summit.
The event, which was opened by the Chief Minister, Deputy Kristina Moore, was organised by the
Government of Jersey as a commitment of the Carbon Neutral Roadmap.
Architect Lynn Sullivan OBE, founder of sustainableBYdesign, and engineer and zero carbon
practitioner Chris Twinn, were among the guest speakers, addressing design, sustainability,
resilience, and the practicalities of reducing emissions in current and future buildings.
Workshops allowed delegates to discuss subjects such as waste management, retrofitting, and
technology.
Minister for the Environment, Deputy Jonathan Renouf, said: “The Sustainable Construction Summit
was about bringing the industry together, and it was pleasing to see suppliers, architects, planners,
builders, and tradespeople such as plumbers and electricians, discussing the role they can all play
in the Island’s push to reduce carbon emissions.
“The Carbon Neutral Roadmap, agreed by States Members earlier this year, asks us to work closely
with the industry to drive-down the carbon impact of the Island’s construction sector, and we’re
particularly keen to work collaboratively on this. The industry has a huge role to play in our carbon
neutral ambitions, and I hope the conversations today can accelerate our progress to a sustainable
construction sector.
“I’d like to thank all those who attended, and I’m grateful for the support for this event from the
Jersey Construction Council, the Association of Jersey Architects and the Architecture Commission.
They are really important stakeholders in our ambition to accelerate the move towards a more
sustainable built environment.”
The summit, which included a virtual option to allow some delegates to join online, was compered
by former ITV weather forecaster Sophia Bird.
