Children and Young Persons Survey results published

09 March 2022

Statistics Jersey have today published the results of the Children and Young Persons Survey (CYPS) 2021.

This survey provides a comprehensive snapshot of life as a child growing up in Jersey, with every child in education in Years 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 having been given the opportunity to describe their life and opinions across a wide range of topics.

The survey was run independently by Statistics Jersey and included topics suggested by a range of stakeholders across government together with an independent review by an ethics committee.

The report covers a variety of age-appropriate topics including:
  • health, wellbeing and self-esteem
  • alcohol, smoking and drugs
  • physical activity
  • sex
  • child sexual exploitation
  • bullying
  • being heard
Some sections (for example, drugs and sex) were not included, or were amended, for the younger children’s surveys.

The language of the question set was carefully considered to maximise understanding and students could choose to complete the online survey in Polish or Portuguese.

The survey has been run since 1998, enabling changes in behaviours and attitudes to be monitored over time.
