Following the success of the last Closer to Home event focusing on families and
children, the Government are delighted to host their next event on Tuesday, 11
October, 11:00-15:00 at Age Concern, Plaisant Place, Val Plaisant, Jersey.
The event is aimed at over 55’s and carers, to help provide them with access to a
number of community and charity sector partners, all in one place. The event will
bring together a variety of organisations, where islanders can speak to multiple
services. This will include wellbeing support - mental and physical health advice,
guidance on benefit entitlements and help with tax related queries. Airtel-Vodafone
will also be there giving demonstrations and advice on assisted home living
technology.

As part of the 100-day actions, The Chief Minister and Minister for Social Security will
also be attending from 13:00 - 14:00 to launch the Older Persons Living Forum, which
will ensure that the older community are included in the Government decision-making
and enable them to have their say on matters that affect them and the Island as a
whole.
Deputy Elaine Millar, Minister for Social Security said: “I am delighted we are acting at
pace and delivering our next Closer to Home event this month. This is a fantastic
opportunity to share the services that are available for our older community and
enable them to learn more about these in one place. Along with the Chief Minister, I
am also looking forward to providing more details about the Older Persons Living
Forum and working together with our older community going forward.”
