Office of the Superintendent Registrar’s annual report

16 February 2022

The Superintendent Registrar has published her annual statement for 2021 which provides insights into key life events of Islanders including births, deaths, marriages, and civil partnerships.

Last year saw an increase in the number of marriages as 437 weddings took place compared to the 184 in 2020. This reflects the large number of couples who delayed getting married due to the COVID-19 pandemic and chose to reschedule their ceremonies to 2021.

Baby names have also become more reflective of the different communities in Jersey with names like Valentina and Maria appearing in the top 10. Arthur and Sienna were the most popular names registered in 2021.

Superintendent Registrar, Claire Follain, said: "This latest report has given us an insight into how much the pandemic has affected Islanders' life events. It has been interesting to see that there has been a significant increase weddings in 2021 compared to 2020 and that numbers have returned to pre-pandemic levels."

The report can be found here.
