The Government is continuing to drive its Disability Inclusion Strategy through a campaign to raise awareness in the workplace. It is encouraging employers to consider and provide opportunities to Islanders with a disability, to 'Empower, Encourage, Embrace'.
The campaign aims to change perceptions and encourage both businesses and Islanders to act. The website gov.je/disability has also been updated to give key resources and access to insightful information.
It will be reinforced through this year's Embrace Our Difference event, which is open to the public and is being held at the Radisson Blu Hotel on November 22 between 4-8pm. Dr Mark Esho MBE will be keynote speaker and there will be more than 50 different organisations, both local and international, showcasing their work. The event is free, and Islanders can reserve their place online.
Assistant Minister for Social Security, Deputy Malcolm Ferey said: "Disability inclusion is such an important issue and continuing to highlight areas to make a difference for people living with a disability remains our focus. We want everyone to feel empowered and to be able to contribute to society. We are grateful to those businesses who are leading the way by supporting us with this message and taking action. We are here to help and available to give guidance and support to all employers.
"The Embrace our Difference event has been fantastic over the last few years. I look forward to our next one this month and seeing Islanders as well as so many organisations, who are proactive and focussed on supporting disabled Islanders, all in one place.
