Former St Brelade Constable, Enid Quenault, officially opened the new Enid Quenault Health Centre
at the former Les Quennevais School on Monday.
Surrounded by family and friends, the former politician expressed her delight at having the new
healthcare facility named after her.
The Centre is the new home for outpatient services which were formerly offered at Overdale
Hospital and marks the first of several healthcare buildings to be delivered as part of the New
Healthcare Facilities Programme.
The event was also attended by Government ministers, parish deputies, and St Brelade Constable
Mike Jackson and senior Government officials.
Health Minister Deputy Karen Wilson said: "I am delighted that the guardian of St Brelade accepted
the offer of having this new health facility named after her, which marks a significant step in
providing new healthcare facilities for the entire Island."
Minister for Infrastructure, Deputy Tom Binet, said: “I’d like to thank the New Healthcare Facilities
Programme team, Health and Community Services, and Rok Construction who have spent the last
15 months transforming the building from a school into a modern healthcare facility our Island so
desperately needs.
“I'm pleased to see the Centre come to life as an operational facility, and that it can now officially
be handed over to Health and Community Services so that they can continue to deliver patient-focussed care.
“Now that we have moved outpatient services to this new facility, clearance works have already
started at Overdale to prepare the site for the development of an urgently needed Acute Hospital.
Ministers are determined to see a spade in the ground in 2025, delivering the Acute Hospital on
time in 2028.”
Speaking after the official opening, Mrs Quenault added: "It is marvellous to see how the teams
have transformed the former school building, and I am so pleased that it will remain a focal point
for the community for many years to come."
Those present were also joined at the event by the current Les Quennevais School head teacher,
Sarah Hague, who was head teacher when the former school was closed, as well as the current
head boy and head girl, who both attended the old Les Quennevais before it was transformed into
the new healthcare centre.
