Statement from the Minister for Justice and Home Affairs, Deputy Helen Miles:
Ministers and officials have been informed that Island Energy will begin restoring the gas supply in a phased manner from early Thursday 12 October.
Commercial and priority customers, particularly those who are vulnerable, will have their gas supply restored first. Island Energy hope to have the gas supply restored for all commercial and domestic customers by Sunday 15 October.
Ministers and officials have expressed their disappointment that it has taken this long to resolve, but understand a safe return of supply is essential.
We understand the incident is incredibly disruptive for 5% of Islanders who rely on the service, and in some cases their customers, and while it falls short of a systemic crisis that would trigger a major incident, the Government continues to review this as part of daily multi-agency meetings and will escalate further if necessary.
We have opened Les Quennevais Sports Centre for non-members to have access to hot water and showers and we are ready to mobilise a helpline via Customer and Local Services should this be required.
We ask that employers across the Island continue to provide support for those people without access to hot water facilities.
Please continue checking in on family members and neighbours who may be without hot water or heating.
All updates from Island Energy will continue to be shared on Government social channels.
