Statistics Jersey have released the latest Actively Seeking Work (ASW) figures, showing there
are now 670 jobseekers registered as actively seeking work.
Through the various campaigns delivered
by the Government’s Back to Work programme, this number continues to remain below that of
previous years.
While it may be challenging to recruit in the current climate, the Back to Work team would like to
hear from any businesses who can provide work experience for those currently seeking
employment.
Financial incentives continue to be available for employers when vacancies are filled.
There are a range of initiatives available to help those looking for employment, with this year the
focus being on the industry training in Retail, Care, Business Admin and Hospitality.
The Back to Work team are available to support anyone in Jersey looking for work with an Entitled
for Work status.
This includes:
- A dedicated advisor with one-to-one support and coaching from trained employment advisors
- Proactive job-matching with the Back to Work recruitment team
- Employment incentives and paid training schemes
- Foundations – a supported work programme run by Back to Work to increase skills and
employability through working on community projects
- Training – an extensive range of courses to develop personal or work-related skills
Assistant Minister for Social Security, Deputy Malcolm Ferey, said. "While it is encouraging that the
numbers of people who are registered as actively seeking work continues on a downward trend, I
would encourage employers to continue to register vacancies with the Back to Work team and also
to consider providing work experience opportunities, so that those seeking to return to work have
an opportunity to enhance their skills set and bolster their chances of finding permanent
employment.”
