Roadworks are scheduled to take place between 5 and 26 November along part of Beaumont Hill and La Route de la Haule in preparation for essential sewage network upgrades.
New drainage infrastructure separating foul sewage from rainwater will eventually be installed to increase the capacity of the system and enable new homes to connect in future.
To minimise disruption to motorists as much as possible, work will be completed in stages and is scheduled outside of peak hours, between 9am and 4pm on weekdays, and 9am to 6pm on some Sundays. Roads will be open as normal before 9am and after 4pm, and on Saturdays they will be open as usual the whole day.
The November works are the first step in the improvements and involve creating trial holes to confirm the position and depth of existing utilities and buried services.
Trial holes on Beaumont Hill will require the northbound lane to be closed from the filter-in-turn junction on La Route de la Haule to the Beaumont Canon at the junction with La Ruelle es Ruaux and La Rue du Craslin.
The team is in the process of contacting businesses and residents in the area. Access to businesses and premises will be maintained throughout the project.
Information from the investigations will inform the design of a surface separation scheme, which would remove surface water (rainwater runoff from roads and roofs) from the foul drainage network – reducing pressure on the Beaumont Pumping Station, the liquid waste network and Bellozanne, in addition to increasing capacity for future network requirements.
Separating surface water from the foul drainage network increases efficiency and provides more capacity in the foul drainage network, which is vital for future housing needs, in line with the Bridging Island Plan.

The Minister for Infrastructure, Deputy Tom Binet, said: "I sincerely apologise for the disruption and inconvenience this is likely to cause and urge people to be as patient as they can because this is essential work that will be in everyone's best interests. We have tried to minimise the impact as much as possible by scheduling the work in stages and ensuring the roads are open as normal during peak hours when people are commuting to and from work. There will be no roadworks on Saturdays, so it'll all be open as normal then too.
"Surface water in this area currently goes into the foul water drains along with sewage water. During heavy rainfall, the pumping station gets overwhelmed and there is a risk of flooding, which we need to do something about as soon as possible.
"The preliminary work we're doing here will give us vital information on the road conditions and exactly where services are located, so that we can commence the design and construction stages of the surface water separation project of this area."
