A meeting was held with residents of Grands Vaux last night to provide them with an update on progress on Government work since the flood event and to listen to their concerns and answer their questions.
The Government intends to publish a report to outline future work to manage the flood risk in the Grands Vaux area and is committed to active engagement with residents and business owners on the proposed changes.
The meeting was hosted by the Minister for Infrastructure, Deputy Tom Binet. The Minister for Housing and Communities, Deputy David Warr, and the Minister for the Environment, Deputy Jonathan Renouf also took part, along with officers from the Infrastructure, Housing and Environment department, and representatives of Andium Homes and Jersey Water.
Residents were given an update on current work which is considering how to manage flood water in this area: including:
- Better data and warnings when heavy rainfall and flood risks are predicted
- Remodelling water management in the Grands Vaux catchment area
- Ongoing drain maintenance and clearance
- Future use of the reservoir and water network
- Options for additional flood protection defences
- Future redevelopments to their homes
Around 100 residents and business owners attended the event and took part in a Q&A session. Ministers and officers are grateful for their valuable feedback, which will be incorporated as the plans are developed.
The Government has committed to keep residents and business owners informed throughout the process and plan to hold further meetings with the residents to continue to keep channels of communication open.
