Applications open for parental support payments for families with under five years residency

11 January 2023

Last year, the States Assembly’s mini-budget supported Islanders with the rising cost of living through a short term reduction to social security contributions and, from this year, increases in income tax thresholds and allowances. In 2022, those Islanders who were able to claim meanstested benefits were also helped from changes to the Community Costs Bonus, the Cold Weather Bonus and the introduction of the Cost of Living Temporary Scheme.

To support Islanders living in Jersey for less than five years, who may not have been eligible for these initiatives, a new one-off payment scheme has been launched to provide additional support to parents (with children under the age of 18) who are not covered by the Island’s means-tested benefits. The Social Security Minister initially announced this new payment last month. Its aim is to provide some additional financial support to these parents.

Payments will be available to parents who are “registered” workers, who have been in the Island for less than five years and who had a gross household income during 2022 of no more than £36,000 for a single person or £48,000 for a couple.

Payment values will be – for one child £250, for two or more children - £500.

Applications are open throughout January and February. Families who may be eligible can apply through the following channels:
