A Planning and building services desk will open at Customer and Local Services (CLS) on La Motte
Street for Islanders seeking support with planning applications and associated enquiries.
An officer from Development and Land (Planning Applications, Building Standards) will be available
between 10am and 2pm, Monday to Friday, from 1 June.
This follows a recommendation in the recent ‘Review of Planning for the Government of Jersey’. The Minister for the Environment, Deputy Jonathan Renouf, published his response to the review at
the same time, accepting all the recommendations in full and agreed to reintroduce a duty officer
at CLS.
Islanders will be able to drop in to ask questions and receive guidance on how to submit an
application. This does not replace the written pre-application advice service. More information on
pre-application advice can be found here.
The review, which was led by former Chief Planner to the Scottish Government, Jim MacKinnon
CBE, was commissioned by Deputy Renouf earlier this year in an aim to improve planning services
and make significant improvements to customer service.
Minister for the Environment, Deputy Jonathan Renouf, said: “Just two weeks ago I committed to
accepting the Review of Planning Report’s recommendations in full. It was important to respond to
the recommendations quickly and I’m pleased that Islanders will now be able to speak to an officer
in CLS for help with their planning applications.
“It is incredibly important for planning services to have a presence that is accessible, and this step is
part of a series of actions that we will be introducing over the next few months to improve our
customer service. The aim is to ensure we deliver a real change and the best service we possibly
can.”
