The Government of Jersey is today officially moving into the recovery phase of Storm Ciarán and has set-up a Recovery Co-ordination Group, which includes officials from emergency services, Government departments, utilities, and partner agencies.
It will help co-ordinate the significant progress already made on the clean-up operation to roads, homes, and infrastructure, as well as supporting the community and vulnerable and displaced residents.
Support from non-Jersey construction businesses
Construction businesses from outside of Jersey will now be able to operate in the Island for a period of 30 days without a business licence. This has been extended from five days, following a Ministerial Order signed by Assistant Chief Minister, Deputy Lucy Stephenson.
This short-term change permits construction businesses to operate in Jersey without a business licence until 3 December, allowing local businesses and individuals to engage off-Island construction workers to carry out emergency repairs to buildings and roofs, where the demand for services and support is very high.
Beware of scammers
Construction businesses are not permitted to go door-to-door, or to tout for business whilst in Island and residents should not be directly approached by businesses to offer their services. Any businesses doing so should be reported to the Business Hub Compliance Unit on 444444 or by email at clsbusinesshub@gov.je.
Islanders are requested to verify contractors' credentials, avoid paying up-front, and have everything confirmed in writing. Checking online for customer comments is also advisable.
Be cautious of falling branches and trees
Government advice remains that people should avoid using countryside and coastal paths, where possible, as there is still a risk of falling branches and trees. Islanders are asked not to go beyond the barrier tape that has been used to close off some of these areas.

Waste
The Household Recycling and Household Green Waste facilities at La Collette are back open tomorrow, as normal on Wednesdays. It is expected to be extremely busy.
Displaced residents
The Government continues to provide care and support services to Islanders who are unable to return home due to storm damage to their properties, including 180 people over the weekend. That number has reduced significantly today as people have returned home, moved into other accommodation, or are being supported by their insurance companies or landlords.
