Government proposes public holiday to mark Royal visit

18 June 2024

The Government is proposing a public holiday to mark next month’s visit of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

The Council of Ministers will lodge a draft amendment in the States Assembly that, if approved, would provide for a public holiday on Monday 15 July 2024, when the Island will host the King and Queen.

This follows consultation with the Bailiff’s Consultative Panel, and the Comité des Connétables.

The Chief Minister, Deputy Lyndon Farnham said: “The visit of Their Majesties is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our longstanding and loyal relationship with the Crown, and we are proposing a public holiday to mark this special occasion and to enable as many Islanders as possible to enjoy the day.”

The visit will include a special Sitting of the States Assembly and the Royal Court in the Royal Square followed by a large-scale, open-air exposition in the vicinity of Weighbridge Place and Liberation Square that will showcase the best of Jersey. Full details of the day will be published in due course.

Guernsey is today announcing its plans for a public holiday to mark the visit of Their Majesties on the following day, Tuesday 16 July.
