A consultant orthopaedic surgeon, who has worked in healthcare for more than three decades,
has been appointed Medical Director for Health and Care Jersey.
Simon West, who was previously the Deputy Medical Director, will be responsible for
leadership of HCJ medical colleagues and will work closely with Primary Care partners in
leading changes to meet the needs of Islanders. He will also continue as a member of the HCJ
Executive team with shared responsibility for strategic, governance and operational decisions.
Simon, who qualified as a doctor from Cardiff University in 1991, said: “It is a great honour to
have been appointed as Medical Director to Health and Care Jersey. As the previous Deputy I
have had the opportunity to understand the challenges we face in Jersey over the last 18
months.
“My immediate objectives are to continue the work to improve services for our patients and our
staff as well as working closely with Executive colleagues and the Ministerial team to ensure
high quality and safe care for the people of Jersey.”
Simon, who has been a consultant orthopaedic surgeon for 20 years, will continue to practice
clinically alongside the Medical Director role.
