Chief Minister to consider planning Inspector's report

From the Chief Minister, Senator John Le Fondré:

“Following the Environment Minister’s decision to refuse the planning application for the new hospital, I believe it is prudent to take time to consider his decision and the recommendations of the independent planning inspector, before announcing how the government wishes to proceed.

“The Environment Minister considered each point made by the planning inspector in his 100-page report, and took several weeks to reach his decision. It is right that the Council of Ministers studies the report and the Minister’s decision, and has an opportunity to discuss it, rather than rushing into making any announcement about what the next steps might be.

“We are all aware of the urgent need for a new hospital, and we do not wish to cause any further delays, but we must ensure that the actions we take next will bring us closer to having the right hospital in the right place.

“Once I have read the Inspector’s report and the Council of Ministers have discussed it, I will announce the next steps for this project.”
