About the consultation
The total cost of providing care is likely to double by 2026 to about £110 million a year (at 2009 prices), increasing to about £155 million by 2036.
This is taking place at a time when there will be many other competing demands on the public purse.
The Strategic Plan published by the Council of Ministers identified the need to plan for the ageing population as a key priority - with the funding of long-term care one of the principal challenges in this area.
The green paper suggests 4 main options on how to proceed, alongside possible ways of providing the funding. The issue is one that potentially affects us all and the Minister for Social Security is keen to hear your views.
Your responses to the consultation will inform firm proposals that will be published as a white paper later this year.
Both the full consultation document and a shorter summary document are available online. A large print version of the summary document is also available.
