Land and Property Index (LPI) and Digital Map

What is the LPI and digital map?

The LPI is a database of all the land and property in the Island. It includes every building, field, street and other physical features such as dolmens and slipways. It also holds the official address of every household.

The digital map, integrated with the LPI, is an electronic map of the island, its coastline and its reefs. It’s like other online maps such as Google Maps but is more accurate and up to date. It’s based on a full re-survey of the island in 2003, has major annual updates and regular minor changes.

The map has many views, including:

  • ordnance Survey style tourist maps
  • an aerial photograph (updated every year)
  • the Island Plan
  • CAD formatted data
  • parish boundaries and coastline
  • heat loss map
  • contours
  • a 3D map of St. Helier

Why we need the LPI and Digital Map

The LPI and Digital Map are used for delivering services such as:

  • parish rates
  • electoral roll
  • managing the environment
  • the Island Plan
  • planning applications
  • road maintenance
  • property transactions
  • fire and rescue services
  • police operations
  • school catchment areas

The LPI is integrated with many parish and States’ systems to make sure we use the correct format for residential addresses. It’s the parish where a property is located that determines the official address, its style and format.

The property owner has the option to choose a name for their property and Jersey Post set all Post Codes.

The benefits of the LPI and Digital Map

By holding the LPI and Digital Map in one place we can keep both services accurate and up to date. It also keeps information consistent throughout public authorities.

The data is available to commercial parties such as:
  • estate agents
  • architects
  • couriers
  • lawyers
  • local utility companies
