Online passport form

Live: Q2 2017

What is the online passport form?

The online passport application will allow users complete a PDF form on gov.je, which can be printed off, signed, and sent to the Passport Office.

The form will have a barcode that will be scanned by passport staff when they receive the application.

Data will then be imported into the Jersey passport system.

Why we need an online passport form

We don’t have a way for our users to complete passport applications online.

Our staff process 11,000 applications per year. They have to manually enter data from the applications into the computer system.

This process is time consuming and costs the passport team £7,900 in overtime pay every year.

Benefits

The online passport application will:

  • provide a user friendly way to complete passport applications
  • save man-hours
  • reduce overtime costs
  • re-direct staff members to other areas, such as the express passport service

Challenges we face

The online form will have some drawbacks, namely:

  • it won’t work on iOS or Android devices
  • it still has to be sent to the passport office or handed in person
  • it needs a “wet signature”
  • staff will continue to scan passport photos and signatures into our system

What’s next?

We’re testing the hardware and link into our system.
