PayByPhone parking allows a driver the option to pay for parking using a mobile phone app
What is Smartphone Parking
PayByPhone parking allows a driver the option to pay for parking using a credit or debit card via the use of a mobile phone App or computer, opposed to the traditional paper scratch cards used in Jersey.
PaybyPhone also offers SMS and dial up payment options for users without smart phones or who do not wish to data roam.
Why do we need Smartphone Parking?
From a customer’s standpoint, pay-by-phone parking is more convenient and often faster than traditional scratch cards. There is no need to have a stock of scratch cards ready in advance of parking and if you wish to extend your visit there is no need to return to your vehicle to scratch more cards, as additional parking payments to extend a stay can be made remotely using the App.
Also, data collection allows for customers to track their parking expenses. Pay-by-phone service providers will provide records for each account detailing the time and location for each parking session as well as the accumulated expenses. The PayByPhone App can be used internationally, both in the UK and elsewhere. For instance, Jersey motorists visiting nearby St Malo in France might want to use PayByPhone to pay for their on-street in St Servan, where the service is also available.
Benefits of Smartphone Parking
PayByPhone parking is a convenient and flexible alternative to scratch cards for those that wish to use it, reducing paper waste.
Challenges we faced
Integrating PayByPhone’s offering into pre-existing systems, such as back of office enforcement and accounting systems and Jersey’s diverse parking offering, both on and off street.
What’s next?
Further offers to customers to increase flexibility.
