Request

In September I will be hoping to take up my first primary teaching job as an NQT and I would like to know if any schools in Jersey provide opportunities for teachers to travel to the UK to complete professional development courses. If so, which schools do this? How frequent are these opportunities? And, what sort of courses are available?

Response

Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs) in Jersey are provided with an individual programme of planned professional development during their induction period.

This programme is agreed with an NQT’s induction tutor.

Off-island training is arranged if identified as part of the professional development programme. Where specific training is identified as useful to groups of teachers, arrangements are made for them. It is often found to be more cost effective to bring the trainer to Jersey.

All teachers are encouraged to focus on their continuing professional development objectives throughout their career in teaching.
