Taxation of non-resident landlords

The response to question 3 of this request stated:

A review of information held in respect of the transfer of ownership of share transfer property is currently being undertaken in respect of all flats that transferred ownership to non-residents during 2014.

Has this review been completed? If so, what are its conclusions? If not, when is it expected to be complete?

Response

The review referred to in the request has now been completed.

Out of all of the 2014 transactions where the purchaser had a foreign address, only one would have been a matter of concern were it not that this case was already subject to correspondence with the Taxes Office.

The review did not therefore highlight a serious problem meriting further extensive resource to be specifically applied.

Cases will however, continue to be considered / investigated as part of the Taxes Office ongoing risk and compliance activity.
