Never events at General Hospital (FOI)

Never events at General Hospital (FOI)

Request

Please could you tell me how many "never events" have been recorded at Jersey Hospital for 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and so far for 2017.

Could you breakdown the figure for each of the years and include a short description of the 'never event', for example 'fitted patient with wrong prosthetic implant' and state whether the patient had to undergo further treatment to fix the mistakes.

Could you also state how much compensation was paid out to patients as a result of 'never events' for each of the years 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and so far for 2017.

Could you also state whether any of the medics involved were subject to disciplinary action.

Response

Never events are a recognised set of specific incidents which are seen to be largely preventable if available protective measures have been implemented. The organisation maps never events against the UK Never Events Policy and Framework and listings.

There were no never events in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 or to date in 2017 and therefore no associated payments in relation to never events.
