The card scheme providers (VISA and MasterCard) changed their tariff structure in mid-2016, resulting in a lower charge for very small value transactions paid by debit card. As part of the review of alternative parking methods, of which automatic number plate recognition at Sand Street is one component, parking charges and card surcharges are being looked at. A corporate project is also underway to select a corporate card services provider for the States of Jersey to replace the current multiple arrangements in place in departments.
Over the course of the period concerned, net charges paid by Jersey Car Parking amounted to £22,950.22.
