Could you please clarify the answer given to a previous Freedom of Information request titled "Policies relating to financial support (FOI)" published on 15 June 2017
The question seeks to establish if financial support is available to people meeting specified criteria. However, the response covers financial support available in situations that do not meet those criteria. The response also covers nonfinancial support such as Back to Work (BTW), but the question was about people who are unable to seek work through illness.
I would be grateful if you could provide a clearer answer to the original question that directly addresses financial assistance only. If no financial assistance is available then please could you make this clear in the answer?
Response
As requested, the previous response, at the link below, has been clarified.
Policies relating to financial support (FOI)
For those with less serious health conditions financial assistance through the Income Support scheme is available providing that they are a member of a low income household.
People aged between school leaving age and under 25 living in households that do not qualify for Income Support, and who do not qualify for one of the higher levels (level 2 or 3) of the personal care award, are not eligible to financial support. The expectation is that they will be financially supported as part of the household of their parent or guardian. This is the same for all young people in the same age group who live in households that do not qualify for Income Support. If a young person in this age group is unable to live with their parents or guardian, they may be able to apply for Income Support independently.
People aged between school leaving age and under 25 living in low income households and who do not qualify for one of the higher levels (level 2 or 3) of the personal care award, can claim financial support provided that the household they are a part of qualifies for Income Support. This assistance would be paid to the household.
