Can you please tell me what percentage of marriages in Jersey over the past 20 years have ended in divorce, and what has been the average length of marriage from the same data?
Response
The information requested is not held.
With respect to this request, the Office of the Superintendent Registrar only holds records of marriage, not divorce.
Divorce records are held by the Royal Court.
There is no correlation between the two sources of information.
It is noted that divorce proceedings in the Royal Court in Jersey can include couples who were married outside Jersey. Similarly couples married in Jersey may get divorced in another country, therefore records of all divorces relating to marriages in Jersey are not held.
The number of marriages registered in Jersey is public information. Statistics from the Superintendent Registrar are reported to the States Assembly (www.statesassembly.gov.je)
A search on that site for 'marriages registered' using the document types reports and statements produces figures back to 1998.
