As of 31 July 2018, the number of clients registered with the mydeposits Jersey tenancy deposit scheme was as follows:

Environmental Health has been delegated responsibility by the Minister for Housing to administer investigations under the Residential Tenancy (Jersey) Law 2011.
52 complaints have been raised by landlords and tenants with regard to tenancy issues since July 2016, including breaches of tenancy agreements, illegal evictions and failure to protect deposit money in the tenancy deposit scheme.
In relation to the tenancy deposit scheme, as of 31 July 2018, 92 disputes have been raised with the scheme since it was established in November 2015. These disputes relate to claims for matters such as rent arrears, repair and redecoration costs, and cleaning.

All the disputes raised with the mydeposits Jersey tenancy deposit scheme relate to deposits as the scheme is responsible for the administration of deposit money.
Where a deposit has not been protected, it is the responsibility of Environmental Health to make sure that landlords comply with the requirements of the tenancy deposit scheme and lodge deposits with mydeposits Jersey. A breakdown of the number of cases dealt with by Environmental Health in relation to unprotected deposits is not available, but they will feature within the 52 cases referred to in response to B above.

No landlord or agents have been fined for not placing a tenant’s deposit in the mydeposits tenancy deposit scheme. However, several cases are under active consideration in respect of potential legal action.
