I would like to know the total amount paid to teaching assistants in 2018.

I would also like to know the mean average paid per teaching assistant.

The total paid (basic pay) to Teaching Assistants in 2018 was £4,560,137. This figure does not include first aid payments nor any Pension / Social Security costs

Based on a monthly payment for all individuals, the average monthly pay equates to £1,336 per month or £16,032 per annum.

Please note:

(a) Many Teaching Assistants work part-time;

(b) This does not include zero hour’s staff nor overtime payments. If an individual has two contracts they have been considered as two people in this calculation.

Payments to other staff who are to be included in a new Teaching Assistant Framework, which is being developed at present, have not been included in the above.

The information above represents only States of Jersey maintained and fee-paying maintained schools. It does not include the private schools: St George’s Preparatory, St Michael’s Preparatory, FCJ Primary, St Christopher’s Primary, Helvetia House School, Beaulieu Convent School and De La Salle College.
