Please can you provide me with the attendance records of all members for meetings with the states for 2018?

Response

The States Greffe records the attendance of States members at the roll call which is taken at the start of each day on which the States Assembly meets. If a member is absent, the reason for absence is recorded as follows:

• malade (ill)

• absent de l’Ile (absent on States business)

• défaut excusé (excused attendance)

• en défaut (absent without reasonable excuse)

However, if a member was absent during roll call, that does not mean that the member concerned was subsequently absent for the entirety of that day’s meeting: they could have arrived later and taken part in proceedings. Similarly, even if a member were present at the roll call, that would not mean that the member was present in the Chamber for the whole day and the entirety of the business conducted on that day.

The States Greffe does not hold records to show whether States members were in the Chamber during the whole of a meeting day. However, records are held in respect of attendance during the roll call and, for 2018, this information is presented below. The tables show the number of occasions on which an elected member was absent for a roll call.

The Assembly met on 34 separate days in 2018 and 34 roll calls were therefore taken. 17 such roll calls were taken before the elections of May 2018 and 17 were taken afterwards. Three tables are therefore presented below to show the following:

• table 1 shows the absence records during roll call for people who were elected States members during the entirety of 2018.

• table 2 shows the absence records during roll call for people who were only elected States members up to the elections of May 2018.

• table 3 shows the absence records during roll call for people who only became elected States members following the elections of May 2018.

As the roll call only involves elected States members, the States Greffe does not maintain attendance records for non-elected States members.
