Request

A

Please provide the current and predicted future costs of printing new headed paper and new forms for all States / Government departments, and also the cost of wasted paper / documents as they have obsolete "States" written on them?

B

Also the cost of new roads signs which we see with the new “Government" sign on them.  What has happened to the old “States" signs and what is the predicted costs of replacing all of them?

C

The costs of any other ramifications caused by this name change.  Are the States Greffe and States Police to be changed to Government and if so what other departments will need to change.

D

Who decided to introduce this name change and for what reason as we are in a state of austerity?

E

Is the “Etats” insignia on the Royal Court to be changed and any costs for any legal documents or any such inexorably linked costs?

F

Is our currency to be changed from States to Government and if so the costs and if not why?

In a nutshell please provide all costs (current and predicted) relating to the introduction of this name change.

B

Road signs do not feature the States of Jersey logo, therefore there are no rebranding costs. However, 20 Government of Jersey vinyl sign overlays have been produced for car parks at the cost of £75.75.

Organisations such as the States of Jersey Police, which are named in law as “States of” will remain so. The States Greffe is not a Government body, but a States Assembly body, and is therefore unaffected.

D

The “Government” name was established in the States of Jersey Law 2005, but was not then applied to clarify the distinction between the Government (administrative departments) and the States of Jersey (the States Assembly).

  • in July 2014, the Council of Ministers adopted the ‘Government of Jersey’ identity for use by Ministers in business cards, official correspondence and for use overseas

  • in March 2018, the States Assembly approved the P.1 Machinery of Government Law 2018, which formally approved the ‘Government of Jersey’ as the legal entity for Ministers and administrative functions

  • in February 2019, the Council of Ministers agreed that the ‘Government of Jersey’ should be used, in-line with the 2018 decisions of the States Assembly

E

The Royal Court is not a Government body and is not affected.

F

No. The currency is named in law, so will not change.

There are no further additional costs anticipated beyond those already itemised.
