Response

A.

The following data are taken from suspensions records which state where incidents involved assault on a member of school staff but do not identify the staff group. Therefore we are unable to identify the number of assaults on teachers specifically, so data may also include assaults on school support staff (eg teaching assistants, lunchtime supervisors, etc).

In order to ensure personal data are not identifiable, this information cannot be broken down by school and figures are suppressed where there were fewer than four assaults on school staff in any one year.

Number of assaults on school staff:

 2014 to 2015*2013 to 20142012 to 20132011 to 20122010 to 20112009 to 2010
All secondary schools≤ 3146≤ 3712

* Until 25 June 2015

B.

In order to ensure personal data are not identifiable, this information cannot be broken down by school and figures are suppressed where there were fewer than four weapons taken into schools in any one year. We are unable to disclose the weapon taken into school in each instance; however the majority of weapons were knives.

Number of weapons brought into school:

 2014 to 2015*2013 to 20142012 to 20132011 to 20122010 to 20112009 to 2010
All secondary schools≤ 3≤ 3≤ 3≤ 3≤ 30

 * Until 25 June 2015

C.

In order to ensure personal data are not identifiable, this information cannot be broken down by school and figures are suppressed where there were fewer than four formal complaints made against teachers in any one year.

Number of formal complaints made against teachers:

 2014 to 2015**2013 to 20142012 to 20132011 to 20122010 to 20112009 to 2010
All secondary schools*11785≤ 3≤ 3

 * This information is not held by Le Rocquier School for all years or by Les Quennevais School for 2009 to 2010 and 2010 and 2011.

** Until 25 June 2015

The above data include complaints classified as formal complaints according to the complaints procedure of each school. Where schools do not have a complaints procedure, formal complaints have been defined as those received in writing (by letter or email) which have come to the attention of the head teacher. Complaints about teachers, head teachers, deputy head teachers and assistant head teachers are included in the data, while complaints about school support staff (eg teaching assistants, lunchtime supervisors, etc) are excluded.

D.

In order to ensure personal data are not identifiable, this information cannot be broken down by school and figures are suppressed where there were fewer than four teachers facing disciplinary action in any one year.

Number of teachers who faced disciplinary action:

 2014 to 2015*2013 to 20142012 to 20132011 to 20122010 to 20112009 to 2010
All secondary schools6≤ 30≤ 34≤ 3

* Until 25 June 2015

The above data include the number of teachers, head teachers, deputy head teachers and assistant head teachers who faced disciplinary action, where a disciplinary hearing has taken place. School support staff (eg teaching assistants, lunchtime supervisors, etc) who faced disciplinary action are not included in the data.
