I would like to request the following prescribing data for medicines dispensed and funded under the Pharmaceutical Benefit Scheme in Jersey.

A

Anxiolytic and Hypnotic medicines: I would like to know

i. The total number of dispensed anxiolytic and hypnotic items in Jersey each month over the past five years.

ii. The Number of Average Daily Quantities of anxiolytics and hypnotics dispensed per 1,000 patients in each month of the past five years.

B

Inhalers: I would like to know

i. The total number of inhaler items dispensed in Jersey each month over the past five years.

ii. Metered dose inhalers (MDIs) as a proportion of all inhalers in British National Formulary (BNF) chapter 3, excluding salbutamol.

C

Opioid analgesics: I would like to know

i. The total number of opioid analgesic items (BNF 4.7.2) dispensed in Jersey each month over the past five years.

ii. The total opioid prescribing (as oral morphine equivalence) per 1000 patients each month over the past five years.

iii. The total number of codeine containing analgesic items dispensed in Jersey each month over the past five years.

iv. The total number of tramadol containing analgesic items dispensed in Jersey each month over the past five years.

Response

The tables in the attachments below provide data in response to the questions raised; the date format is year month, therefore 201401 indicates January 2014.

The data systems hold only five years’ worth of data therefore the data provided goes back as far as January 2014. The most recent data set available is October 2019.
