What are the up to date regulations / laws regarding Purple Plate Taxi Drivers who are associated to Private Hire Companies and to the usage of public taxi ranks?

Response

A Ministerial Decision (MD) was signed on 12 September 2016 which laid out the legislative changes required to achieve the items shown below. This decision (ref MD-T-2016-0079) is available on www.gov.je at the following link.

Motor Traffic (Taxi-Cabs - General) (Amendment) (Jersey) Order 2016 & Motor Traffic (Public Service Vehicles (Conditions of Fitness)) (Amendment No. 2) (Jersey) Order 2016

• replace the terms “Controlled taxi-cab” with “Taxi” and “Restricted taxi-cab” with “Private-hire cab”

• define the accessible standard

• amend the circumstances under which a taxi or private hire-cab can use any taxi rank
